Nokia Lifeblog 1.5 available!

The Nokia Lifeblog site just went live with the newest version – Lifeblog 1.5.

This is the version that uses Atom to post to the web. The first blog service that it works with is Six Apart’s TypePad web logging service (the one I use, here). We’ve worked with Six Apart to get it working nicely. On our side, we’ve made it easy to blog photos, videos (yes!), SMSs, and notes from the phone or PC (and MMSs from the PC). On Six Apart’s side, they created some nifty templates that take all this multimedia and display it all pretty.

It’s so cool (check out my other blog for examples).

In a moment, I’ll post the technical document that describes how we use Atom to post, so that you clever ones can adapt your servers to be compatible with Lifeblog.

Other interesting additions are some usability tweaks, back up feature, and support for the Nokia 66330 (a wicked cool phone). We’re rolling out the languages as we can. The English version is available first, and then the other ones will follow. Go get it. It’s a free upgrade for registered 1.0 users and 29.95 € for new users. The blogging service, obviously, is a separate cost.

Feedback welcome here!

  1. I have been using Lifeblog 1.5 on my shiny new 6630 and love it. I have one small problem though – it does not always seem to pick up SMS messages (sent or received). This problem has only started after I have been using it for a week or two – I haven’t changed any settings – do you have any idea what might be wrong?

  2. have you had any luck on the pushing for mac front? i went ahead and bought my 7610!!! yippee. do you think it is worth installing lifeblog on the phone, in the hopes that one day it might sync?

  3. Miles, I think I already sent a response, but in case I didn’t: I have no idea what’s happening. Sorry. It might have to do with how many apps are open or something. You can recover them by going to options->import->recover lost items. That rebuilds the database, looking for missed items.
one other thing – Lifeblog dies not collect any of special SMSs such as service messages, business cards, or picture messages (the old ones, from before MMS).

  4. kit,
    congratulation on your new phone!
don’t depend on Lifeblog getting to the Mac.
nonetheless, there is still quite a lot you can do with Lifeblog mobile: you can still have all your stuff in one place, write notes, share your stuff in many ways, and blog.
as for synching with a 7610 and a Mac, while it’s been some time since they’ve added a new Nokia phone to isynch, I’m sure at some point Apple will do it, or someone else. I really don’t know.
Sigh (which seems to be a sound I am making frequently these days).

  5. I use the free version of TypePad’s moveabletype to publish my personal blog and I’d REALLY like to be able to automagically post entries from my 7610 & lifeblog 1.5. Is there any documentation on how to make this happen? Is there a version requirement for MoveableType? I’m using 3.0D.
Also, if you have the level packs for Bounce for the 7610, I’d LOVE to have those as well. 😉

  6. hi, i just got myself a 7610 and installed Lifeblog both on it and my laptop. trouble is, when i do a sync between both devices, all the images and video from the gallery, together with the SMS’s go to my laptop. in the end, my 7610 is devoid of any image gallery or SMS’s. i know i can use the favourites to copy some of the stuff back but the images in Favourites do not reflect themselves in the gallery anymore. Is there a way to sync and yet retain all info in my 7610?

  7. Hi there,
I bought the new Nokia 6681 and it came with Lifeblog 1.6. It runs perfectly on my phone, but not on my Laptop.
I installed and de-installed it 5 times now, downloaded the latest DirectX and even formatted my second partition and installed it there… it won’t run! It always says: “The application cannot be initialized. Please restart the program or the computer. If that doesn’t help, lokk at the DirectX help.”
But DX works fine, I tested it with dxdiag. And: The program runs on our PC!
    I have a Gericom Webgine XL Performance, a P4, 60GB harddrive and 1024 RAM, WinXP SP1.
Does any of you have an idea what else I could try?
    Thx in advance.
    Julia

  8. julia,
this seems beyond my modest skills. i’ll pass it on to the support folks. you seem to have everything necessary, but it might be a wonky graphics card that isn’t supported. have you tried lowering the resolution of your screen.
there’s a new version of lifeblog coming out in the next month or so. i think it’s more forgiving in terms of the graphics cards it supports, though i am not sure.
    tchau,

  9. Hello,
i couldn’t find the proper place where to ask for a small help so i decided to comment here.
i’m already using Nokia lifeblog since 5 months and it is wonderful. Suddenly, i had to format the Pc’s drive so i copied the main folder : “LifeblogData” on a CD and later after the format, i installed Lifeblog again. So the problem is that i’m trying since that time to replace My old LifeblogData folder by the new empty folder created by the program.. But Lifeblog is remaining idle, without showing any of the contents… i’m so unhappy to lose all my five months diary because of a format… so please in case someone has a way to help me i’ll be all ears!
    Thanks in advance.

  12. I got a solution to this problem by uninstalling it from the laptop.
copied the whole lifeblod installtion files from the CD to the laptop. and then installed it from there again.
    and alas it worked !!

  13. I would like to know if lifeblog automatically pulls photos from my pc onto the lifeblog display. I have two photos on my pc which didnt come from my phone, I dont think. Is this possible???

  14. Hi,
I have recently started using Lifeblog on my pc to post to livejournal. It posts photos fine, however it wont post if i select sms and notes i’ve added. Is it actually possible to post these items straight from lifeblog (i have just been highlighting them as i do with photos.)
    Thanks

  15. Ameeta,
If I remember correctly, LiveJournal won’t accept SMS messages or text notes from Lifeblog. You can post images from both PC Lifeblog and S60 Lifeblog (to paid accounts). If you only want to post text from S60 Lifeblog, you just pretend to post something but then remove that item and you’re left with just the body text. But from the PC, unfortunately there’s no way to remove an item and be left with just body text.
Here’s how to post text only from S60:

(and Mark Eichin’s comment confirms LJ won’t accept SMS or notes)
This FAQ doesn’t really explain the text bit fully:

  16. Hi, don’t know if this is possible, I have just got a Nokia 6300, which i know does not have lifeblog on it. I have just bought a 6gb card for the phone and was wondering if there is anyway to install lifeblog (onto the card?) so that i can use it with this phone?

  17. hey someone please tell me why doesn’t lifeblog support 3gpp files? How can that be possible? I mean, that’s what its supposed to do! Am i wrong in thinking that? I am getting frustrated! Ok i’ll tell u whats happened. I’ve just bought a new nokia n95 8gb. I got 2 cds with that. One is nokia pc quite and the other one has got songs, videos and movies in it. Now I’ve installed nokia pc suite on my pc. I transferred many of my photos to my cellphone using lifeblog. But when i’m trying to transfer the videos from the pc, it doesn’t happen because of some format problem. (i’m a layman i don’t know much about this format crap) but i can understand that. But what i can’t understand is why is the content in the ‘DRM’ entertainment cd that i got with the phone not being able to be imported to lifeblog. Its got songs in ‘AAC AUDIO’ format and videos in ‘3gpp content’ format. I get a pop-up saying ‘These files cannot be imported because the format is not supported by lifeblog or the files have got some error’. Now surely the format of the content that’s come with the phone itself should be supported by lifeblog? This is very frustrating for a girl like me who doesn’t know much about all this n likes things simple. All I want to do is watch videos n movies on my cellphone. Why does all this have to be so complicated? Someone please help me! 🙁

  18. wish to know how to transfer my old sms messages from 7610 cell to 6300 cell. i am facing a problem for transfering messages. its around 500 messages. its is copied to my pc (displays inside Nokia Lifeblog. looking forward your advice.
    thanks’
