A note from a co-worker, who coincidentally went to high school with me, freaked me out sort of today. Here’s what I (sort of) replied:
This note threw me into such a flashback. A search here and a search there landed me in a large collection of photos that made my head spin.
For some reason, I’ve always been ambivalent about ties back to high school. Nothing horrible or the like, but I left and really never looked back. I think part of that is because I left a year early for college and then came back every so often before my old class graduated, noticing the gap between me and them that kinda severed my connection with them. I grew up with them, but missed that last year of growth before all scattered to the wind.
There are a few high school people who I think of occasionally, but for the most part, high school is not a part of my conscious life. My brother, on the other hand, has always been the nostalgic type and has done a great job maintaining contact with old school friends.
Here’s a pic of my school:
Go figure: I work for a Finnish company and live in Finland. The co-worker is based in Dallas and is American and was in my brother’s class (I dated her sister once). My brother tipped me off that she and I worked in the same company. And here’s the kicker – the school is the Escola America de Rio de Janeiro and I left it 20 years ago.
A great sandwich and awesome fries at the diner called Diner in Williamsburg Brooklyn. We were meeting some artists who lived near by and who were doing some work for us. Great find.

Isn’t it sad that such an enlightened physical discipline has been reduced to an impulse buy beside a cash register at a book store? This is from my recent trip to NYC. It’s at the Barnes and Noble on 5th Ave (across an eerily empty Scribner’s).

Coming back from a cafe across from Senator Square in Helsinki. I just watched the Vagina Monologues. My New Englander wife was sort of apologetic prior to the show. But it was kind of tame. I think she’s the one with the hang-ups.

To rise above the noise, to stand out with something of value and use, and to drive sales (why does it always come to money?).
This is what a crowed market looks like – so how do folks make money here?
