A couple weeks ago, I was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal about how the camera on a mobile phone and barcodes will provide a way to surf the physcial world. The camera acts like a mouse and barcodes will provide hyperlinks to a website.

InfoWorld on: Companies flock to snap up .mobi names

Eh. Seems like a squatters rush to me. Even Infoworld has a tongue in cheek comment (see below).

Are such top level domains relevant? I guess only time will tell.

Making a good mobile website currently really demands a technique like this be used. The more this stuff stays closed off the more I think we’re going to see fragmentation and competition within the segment. Is there a good way to make a functional mobile site and at the same time put all that presentation logic out for all to see?
